Measuring development Children need to master the first steps of development with two types of movement. Gross Motor Skills referred to as large movements like walking Fine motor skills for example throwing a ball, hugging a toy Once these skills are developed can the child then learn to become independent these skills vary between children some may crawl at 6 months and be walking by 12 months others may take longer

This external dialogue helps children guide themselves through tasks • Culture and society shapes child development • Scaffolding the aid and instructions given by adults to help children over time this help is gradually reduced until they have learnt t do the task by themselves • Zone of proximal development children learn best through interaction with their peers and guidance, teachers also provide a variety of experiences to learn, the more positive the environment the more children will develop
