Parents Birth of Demeter • Rhea, who dwells under Earth, fell in love with Kronos who ended up marrying her • They together had Demeter • She had Persephone with her brother Zeus • She was a wild girl and nobody would remember her daughter, Persephone’s, first name • She was siblings with Hestia, Zeus, Poseidon, Haides, and Hera Father- Kronos Mother- Rhea

Going to the Underworld • Zeus promised Demeter’s daughter, Persephone, to Hades, god of the underworld, and in the field of Nysa, she was dragged into the underworld • Demeter wandered the Earth to find her until she saw Helios, who told her what happened • Demeter disguised herself as an old woman and lived with the mortals • Zeus sent Hermes to bring back Persephone from the underworld • Persephone had to eat 4 seeds of a pomegranate • It took 4 years • Fall->Winter = going to underworld • Spring->Summer = going back from underworld
