The Roman Army -The Roman army could conquer many countries and defend itself because their army was more organized and better trained than any other army. -The Romans liked to take their enemies heads as trophies -Their weapons were, a dagger, a short sword, and a rectangle shaped shield -The Roman army built roads during the time they have when their not fighting

  3. Roman Food • The rich people(Patricians) would eat many different types of food like meat • At some dinner parties they would eat crazy foods like flamingo • Sometimes guests would make themselves throw up so they could still eat • Guests ate laying on couches at dinner parties • Slaves did all of the cooking

Gladiators/ Colosseum • Gladiators were armed with a trident and a net while fighting • Sometimes gladiators would wrestle lions that were taken to the colosseum from Africa • Gladiators would fight to death just for entertainment for the guests • The Colosseum could fit 55,000 people • The Gladiators were usually slaves or prisoners

  5. slaves • Slaves were bought at the slave market at the forum • The slaves that worked for the Patricians would prepare their dinner parties • Slaves sometimes got their freedom from their hard work

  6. Pompeii Pompeii was buried under ash and pumice from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in A.D 79 • People buried and preserved by ash • About 20,000 died during the eruption • Smelled like rotten eggs • Found by accident in 1700’s

  7. Aqueducts Aqueduct • They were slightly angled downhill • Gave romans fresh water and washed away waste • 200 cities get water from them • Made of arches • They were kind of shaped like bridges

  8. Roads • They were made of stone slabs • They even had traffic officers! • People rode chariots on the roads
