ARES Role at Microsoft • Provide backup communications for Security (life/safety) and Real Estate & Facilities (RE&F). Communication occurs intra-campus and inter-campus. • Provide backup communications between the Microsoft Campus and local government, police, fire agencies, other ARES EOCs and teams.
ARES Role at Microsoft (continued) • Assist with Red Cross activities on-campus. • Assist with damage assessment. • ARES does not assist in business recovery processes.

Being Prepared • Have your 72 hour kit ready at all times • Keep radios ready, power sources charged. (Alkaline adapters for radios.) • Know how to react in an emergency • Participate in nets and drills • Read and understand the “red book” • Keep your contact info card with you • Have a plan for your family/loved ones
Understanding the Threats(Advanced Warning) • Weather • Wildfire • Civil Unrest (WTO) • Warfare
Understanding the Threats(No Warning) • Earthquake • Volcano • Tsunami • Landslide • Power Outage • Fire • Chemical/Biological • Weather • Terrorism • Anything Else Not on This List
Activating the Team • Don’t wait for a call-out to check in to the net • First station on frequency starts the net • Primary activation frequency – The campus repeater (441.850+ PL 203.5) • Secondary frequency – the repeater output • VHF – 146.52, 146.820 - PL 103.5 • Adapt to the situation • Always stay calm
The Microsoft EOC • Located in the red trailer near bldg. 10 • Emergency power, water, and food • Amateur - 2 meter, 440, and HF operations (voice and data). • External – Security, scanners, and TV (local and satellite)
