  6. Classroom Schedule • 9:15 School Day Begins • 12:00-12:45Lunch/Recess • 3:40 Dismissal • We will have GIT team every Wednesday and Friday. 11-12 Specials alternate every nine weeks. • Library checkout will take place weekly.

  7. Common Core Standards • Common standards will help ensure that students are receiving a high quality education consistently, from school to school and state to state. Common standards will provide a greater opportunity to share experiences and best practices within and across states that will improve our ability to best serve the needs of students.

  8. Math Curriculum • As we continue to incorporate common core standards this year, we will be implementing the Erureka Math program. • Extended activities and enrichment activities are given in small groups. • Timed tests will be given. Students are given 3 seconds per problem to help build math fact fluency.

  9. Reading Curriculum and Assessments • Daily 5 - a series of literacy tasks which students complete daily while the teacher meets with small groups or confers with individuals. It includes Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Work on Writing, Listen to Reading. • CRAFT (modified CAFÉ Menu)- Comprehension, Response to Text, Accuracy, Fluency, Text Features/Elements, Throughout the year we will be learning strategies to help us better understand what we are reading. • STAR- STAR Reading includes tools, content, and reports which provides skill-specific, actionable data to help target instruction and practice, and select students for intervention. • DRA- (Diagnostic Reading Assessments) Will be given one on one, three times a year in September, January and May.

  10. Writing Curriculum • Writing-Lucy Calkins • Grammar-nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, use prepositions. • Word Work- Sitton Spelling, vocabulary-prefixes, suffixes, roots, homonyms, synonyms & antonyms.

  11. Homework • Homework is given Monday-Thursday • Spend no more than 45 minutes a night on homework • Student responsibility - Homework is not formally graded but is checked for completion. • All homework assignments will be listed on the assignment board in classroom for students to copy into their planners. • READ 20 MINUTES EVERY NIGHT

  12. Building/Classroom Rules • Respect yourself, others, and your school. • Conduct yourself in a way that will not keep adults from teaching, or you and others from learning.

Supplies • We have a few additional supplies that we would like for our classroom. *1 INCH BINDER WITH VIEW POCKET AND 5 POCKET DIVIDERS. *Canvas recyclable grocery bag. *Markers • Please be sure to check periodically with your child to see if they need any new pencils, crayons, glue sticks, etc. A note will come home if I notice that supplies need to be replaced.

  15. Student of the Week & Birthdays • Each student will have a special week. • Students may bring in non-edible items for the class, pencils, stickers etc. or a game for inside recess

  16. Notes/Money • Notes need to include your name, the name of your child, and my name. • All money needs to be in an envelope or baggie. It needs to be CLEARLY labeled with the child’s name, my name, and the purpose of the money. • Please always use your child’s first and last name.

  17. Picking up your child • Parents will stay in your car and drive back by the gym to pick up your child. Please yield to daycare vans. • If the child is being picked up early, parents must go to the office.

  18. Volunteers • In-class volunteers – please make sure volunteer form is completed. • PTO always needs volunteers to be VIPs,, fall festival, holiday shop, book fair, flower sale pick up, yearbook etc. • Field trips/special days

  19. PTO Please join our school PTO, they do many things to help your child every day in and out of the classroom. Membership fee is $5 A packet will be coming home within the first couple of weeks with your child giving you more information about the PTO. Pickerington Elementary Coupon Card - $5
