What Are Tessellations? • Write a definition on a notecard • Draw a picture that represents your definition • Definition: Shapes or combinations of shapes that can be put together without overlapping to completely cover the plane.
Regular Polygons • Regular Tessellation: A tessellation formed by (copies of) a single regular polygon. • Which regular tessellations can you make? • Are these all of the regular tessellations? Why or why not?
Combinations of Regular Polygons • Semiregular Tessellation: A tessellation formed by two or more regular polygons with the same arrangement of polygons at every vertex. • Which patterns can you make? • Why do these work?
