International Crystal Federation • Strong Global body • Represents the Crystal Industry Worldwide • Has had Direct Contact with EU and FDA • Has sought with EDG support for Direct Membership of CPIV • Membership confirmed June 2001
International Crystal Federation • Represents the ‘Premium’ end of the Domestic Glassware Market • No ICF aspirations to represent the whole Domestic Glassware Industry • Commitment between ICF & EDG to work together on common issues • Sitting side by side within CPIV
EDG • Differently organised from the ICF • Membership is through Trade Federations • Good representation therefore required • Information sharing and benchmarking opportunity • Clear Horizontal and Vertical Communication amongst Members • Clear Communication between EDG and ICF
EDG Congress 2002 • To be Held in Lisbon, Portugal • Hosted by Portuguese Crystal Glass Association • 24th to 26th May 2002 • Commercial, Marketing and Design Papers • Legislative Updates and Presentations • Enquiries to Frédéric van Houte directly
Issues of Concern • Initiatives to promote the qualities of European Manufactured Glassware and rules on Origin Marking for product imported into the EU • The time is approaching to consider once more the definitions for ‘Crystal’ switching emphasis to Optical Properties rather than glass composition
In Summary • Brief History of EDG has been provided • It is positioned to fully represent the Domestic Glass Industry • It can be achieved through the offices of CPIV • It can be achieved through partnership with the ICF
