D E S I G N D I R E C T I V E • AIM: To design a high quality product which is stylish, emotive and acts as a visual attraction when placed in a room. • The table must be cohesive to OCEE range • The final product must reflect my design aesthetic • The final product must emulate my research themes • These will be adhered to and referred to during the designing and manufacturing process. • RESEARCH THEMES • DESIGN PARAMETERS • My research aims will be emulated through the design by stipulating to these specifications • Shape – Organic curved • Size – Meter squared & Knee height • Emotive calm – Soft pastel colour choice • Optically stimulating – Modular design • Large scale production – CNC capable & low no. fixings • Cost effective – Material use & waste control • Table height derived from anthropometric knee data and organic form from OCEE Giggle chair. • The 2 key research factors to be emulated are; • Emotive design – Project calm relaxing mood • Modular design - Intelligent material usage • The final product is intended to provide a break out area table which is a visual attraction and is optically stimulating in a calming way. SURFACE DESIGN The surface design is the most important aspect of the design. • The shape is organic • CNC capable • The proportions are correct • The colour selection has the correct emotive properties • Subtle yet distinct likeness to the OCEE company brand • Range Cohesion • BEECH • LACQUER - SEMI MATTE • MDF • PANTONE 636 - SEMI MATTE Evolution of surface design
FRAMEDESIGN • The frame design needs to be simple yet functional and constructed from wood. • Due to the modular design of the product I developed a frame that can be changed in surface area by changing the central triangle. • CNC capable • Triangulation offers strength • Interesting design yet simple • Adaptable to different sizes • Produced from 1m x 1m x 18mm • PLYWOOD 18mm • LACQUER – SEMI MATTE Evolution of frame design

Emotive design – Calm relaxing feel • ACHIEVED • 2. Cohesive Aesthetic – OCEE range potential • ACHIEVED • 3. Scale of production – Cost effective design • ACHEIVED • MATERIALS & COSTINGS • MDF 1000 x 1000 x 25 £12.00 • PLYWOOD 1000 x 1000 x 18 £16.00 • BEECH 420 x 420 x 32 £6.40 • DOWEL 60 x 6 £0.30 • TOTAL £ 34.70 • RETAIL ESTIMATE OF £150.00 • (Based on University material prices) D E S I G N R E V I E W
