Working Group 8 – E9-1-1 Best Practices • Description: 9-1-1 service reliability is vital to public safety and consumer wellbeing. CSRIC II, and before that NRIC, have worked over the years to develop a substantial body of voluntary best practices to promote 9-1-1 reliability. This Working Group will review the existing set of CSRIC/NRIC 9-1-1 best practices and recommend ways to improve them, accounting for the passage of time, technology changes, and operational factors. • Duration: June 6, 2012 Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council CSR C

Working Group 8 - Current Work Activity • Establish Working Group logistics and participant listings • Establish email exploder for team • Define meeting schedule • Establish committees based on needs of E911 Best Practice review • Identifying expertise gaps • Data collection for existing and CSRIC II E911 Best Practices • Collection of Best Practices referenced in E911 outages reported into the Network Outage Reporting System (NORS) • Review of past NRIC/CSRIC Final reports for any outstanding recommendations or work activities
Working Group 8 - Work Completed • Compiled list of existing Best Practices related to E911 from the ATIS Best Practice website. Used keywords of 911 and 9-1-1, PSAP, etc. to establish review list. • Contacted FCC PSHSB and requested Best Practices referenced by service providers in Final NORS reports under the following data fields: • Applicable Best Practice that might have prevented the Outage or reduced its effects • Best Practices used to mitigate effects of Outage
Working Group 8 - Next Steps • Best Practice tutorial for Working Group members • Identify committees and leadership • Define Best Practice review process and validation process • Distribute Best Practices and supporting documentation to WG8 participants • Identify any BP gaps and/or concerns recognized by Working Group 8 and forward to appropriate CSRIC Working Group for consideration • Begin work on WG8 Report
