  4. Operant Conditioning • Def: increasing or decreasing the likelihood of behavior based on consequences. • Reinforcement: increases behavior + • Punishment: decreases behavior - **MANIPULATION of REINFORCERS

  5. REINFORCERS • Positive Reinforcers- • anything you find pleasing! • Negative Reinforcers- • anything you find displeasing! *Key- pleasing or displeasing is determined by the person who is being subject to the conditioning!

  8. Reinforcement • Always meant to increase the likelihood of a behavior.

  10. Negative Reinforcement • REMOVAL of a negativereinforcer. • Taking away something bad! Do not get confused and think this is punishment. • EXAMPLE: If you are all perfect students, I won’t give homework.

  11. Punishment • Always meant to decrease behavior.

  12. Positive Punishment • Presentation of a Negativereinforcer. • Giving you something you don’t like! • EXAMPLE: You act like a jerk in class, I give you a detention. • EXAMPLE: You mouth off to your mother, you get grounded.

  13. Negative Punishment • Removal of a Positivereinforcer. • Taking away something you like! • EXAMPLE: If you are rude to your sister, mom takes away your video games. • EXAMPLE: If you go over your minutes, parents take away your cell phone.
