Agenda • 10:05-10:30 • Social Studies Themes’ Activity: Collages. • 10:30-10:40 • Break • 10:40-12:00 • Integrating the Arts: Art, music, drama: Creating Original Opera. • Integrating Literacy and the Arts: • Writing and creating a song: Flower Dust • Singing and playing instruments • Creating puppets • Putting it all together.

  4. Workshop Goals, Objectives, Assessments:

  5. Objectives: Exploring artifacts from diverse cultures; making inferences and generalizations based on these. Assessment: Students complete table with inferences and generalizations, followed by whole class discussion. Goal 1: Understanding the Arts as expression of self and cultures.

  6. Objectives: Classify images of diverse cultures into S.S. Themes. Create a collage that represents multiple dimensions of a particular S.S. theme. Assessments: Discussion with partner. Create a collage. Goal 2: Understanding the curricular dimensions of Social Studies Themes

  7. Objectives: Identify the different arts (visual, musical, performance) within the context of education. Exploring arts integration curriculum in the following expressive domains: Vocal production Playing instruments Creating puppets Integrating all of the above. Assessment: Reflect on opera video through questions, responses, and observations. Active participation in workshop activities. Goal 3: Understanding concepts and processes for arts integration

  8. Objectives: Integrate art projects into Social Studies activity. Integrate art projects into literacy activity. Assessments: Social studies Themes’ collages. Performance for puppet show. Goal 4: Integrating the arts into curriculum to enhance learning.

  9. Objectives: Explore the nature of different media: Paper, photos, cartoons, clay, new molding products, crafts’ supplies for children. Apply different techniques to create a finished product: Collage, sculpture, puppetry. Assessments: Create a collage. Create a puppet using different media. Goal 5: Understanding the nature and application of different art media and techniques.
