How do you know when a result is reasonable?

How do you know when a result is reasonable?. Unit Questions. Did you know that we probably use statistics such as mean, median, mode, and range without even noticing it? What is and how do we find the mean, mode, median, and range?. Why should we learn these math concepts?.

  1. How do you know when a result is reasonable?

  2. Unit Questions • Did you know that we probably use statistics such as mean, median, mode, and range without even noticing it? • What is and how do we find the mean, mode, median, and range? • Why should we learn these math concepts?

  3. Mean, Median, Mode, Range By Nikki Goodwin

  4. OverviewToday we will learn… • Mean • Median • Mode • Range

  5. What is Mean? • The mean is the numerical average of a set of data. • The mean is found by adding all the values in a set of data, then dividing the sum by the number of values.

  6. Let’s Try It… • Lets find Dylan’s Science grade for his report card. Before we calculate the mean for this data, Can you give me a reasonable guess? How do you know your guess is reasonable?

  7. Remember the steps for finding the mean. • Step 1- Add all the values • Step 2- Divide • Step 3- Find the Average

  8. Lets find Dylan’s MEAN science test score? 97 84 88 100 Step 2 Step 1 95 Divide the sum by the number of values. Add all the values. 63 73 86 783 9 ÷ + 97 The mean is 87 783

  9. Median Sounds like MEDIUM Think middlewhen you hear median. small medium large

  10. What is the MEDIAN?How do we find it? The MEDIAN is the number that is in the middle of a set of data. Steps for finding the median 1. Arrange the numbers in the set in order from least to greatest. 2. Then find the number that is in the middle.

  11. Arrange values from least to greatest. 63 100 73 88 95 97 84 86 97 Find the number that is in the middle. The median is 88. Half the numbers are less than the median. Half the numbers are greater than the median.

  12. What is the MODE?How do we find it? The MODE is the piece of data that occurs most frequently in the data set. A set of data can have: • One mode • More than one mode • No mode

  13. Arranging values from least to greatest makes it easier to find the mode. 63 100 73 88 95 97 84 86 97 Find the number that appears more or most frequently. The value 97 appears twice. All other numbers appear just once. 97 is the MODE

  14. What is the RANGE?How do we find it? The RANGE is the difference between the lowest and highest values. largest number smallest number - RANGE

  15. What is the RANGE of this set of data? 86 88 48 99 84 97 71 _ 99 48 51 51 is the range of this data set

  16. Mean Median Mode Now you try what we just learned Find the…. & Range

  17. Mean Median Mode Range
