HE IS NOT A MAN. “For He is not a man as I am that I may answer Him, That we may go to court together. There is no umpire between us, Who may lay his hand upon us both” (Job 9:32-33). Trouble In The World. We struggle to understand God’s allowing evil to afflict us.

HE IS NOT A MAN “For He is not a man as I am that I may answer Him, That we may go to court together. There is no umpire between us, Who may lay his hand upon us both” (Job 9:32-33).
Trouble In The World • We struggle to understand God’s allowing evil to afflict us. • Atheists attack our faith with this charge. • Job supplies an answer to a number of questions.
Question #1 • Did God see the horror happening? • Heb. 4:13; Psalm 139:8 • Yes. • There is nothing of which God is unaware. • QUESTION #2 • What did God think about it? • He took no pleasure in it. • Psalm 116:15; Ezek. 18:23, 32
Question #3 • What else was God doing at the time of our suffering? • He was giving us all things. • I Kings 18:37ff; Acts 17:28; 14:17 • Question #4 – What could God do about our situation? • He has all power to do anything. Psalm 62:11
Question #5 • If He can stop these horrors, why doesn’t He? • Gen. 3 shows us how a once perfect world is now cursed by sin. • Lam. 3:25-33. “willingly does not afflict”. He allows suffering, but it breaks His heart.
Question #6 • If we can stop suffering and don’t, will we be held guiltless? • No, James 4:17. • Question #7 – Then what about God?! • “He is not a man”. • Will we serve God for naught? Job 1:9; 38:2ff • At times God gives no reason, and expects us just to obey. Job 13:15; Hab 1:13; 2:1-4 • We must decide by faith, not knowledge.
