Enduring Understandings -How do Rocks Form? • Different types of rocks can be classified by physical and/or chemical properties. • Rocks are grouped based on how they form. • There are 3 basic rock types with each forming in a different way. • Rocks are changed through weathering, heat, pressure and/or melting over a long period of time.
Essential Questions What happens to a rock under pressure and/or heat over time? Why aren’t all crystals the same? Why don’t all crystals look the same? How can you change one type of rock into another?
Essential Questions cont. How can you combine little rocks to make a big rock? How are the properties of each type of rock similar and/or different? If there is a pattern of rock formation or change, what is it?
