  2. I. Location and Government • They were coming with Spanish settlers and moved to El Paso. • They had four ranks. One is the chief and medicine man. • Next the war chief and three other ranks.

  3. II. Homes • They lived in homes called pueblos. • Pueblos are like apartments'. • They had three or more stories. • Before the Tiguas lived in pueblos they lived in huts.

  4. III. How They Lived • The Tiguas were farmers. • They grew corn. • The men cleared the fields and dug ditches to bring water from Rio Grande to the fields. • They had no problems with droughts. • Tigua men also hunted wild game to add to their food supply and they raised sheep. • The women planted the fields with corn , beans, melons, and squash. • Women also grew cotton which they used to make clothes along with the wool from their sheep. • Children worked with their mothers in the fields. • The mothers and girls also gathered food for their diet. • The Tiguas also made pottery.

Beliefs • The Tiguas believed that they came out of the ground. • The legend says a badger dug a hole. • From the hole a Tigua grabbed a spruce tree and the Tiguas used it to clime out of the hole. • When they met the Spanish they took on many Christian beliefs • They mix these Christians ideas with their own. • Their celebrations revolved around their crops and hunt. • They celebrated ST. Anthony and God. • Tiguas celebrated big on June 13th every year.

  6. V… Summary • The Tiguas were a small group of Natives that came from the west into Texas with the Spanish. • They were farmers. • They brought water from the Rio Grande to their fields. • They never worried about droughts. • They hunted and gathered
