"Masturcation examines the private and public nature of bodily processes, orifices, and excretions through an installation comprising fabric/video projections, vinyl graphics in red-orange-yellow, and inflatable sculpture. The project aims to distort images to represent societal constraints on bodily functions. Project goals include learning about bodily processes and creation of large-scale vinyl cut-outs. The project delves into the intersection of corporeal activities like eating and masturbating, exploring their differences and social implications. Drawing inspiration from artists like Tracey Emin and Pipilotti Rist, Masturcation aims to challenge cultural norms and boundaries associated with natural body processes."

Critical Content Concept Body issues Gender associations/socialization Boundaries Cultural norms and rituals associated with natural body processes Masturcation is an examination of the private and public nature of corporeal processes, orifices and excretions of the body.
Project Description I aim to create an installation that consists of a fabric or inflatable projection surface/sculpture, video projection that has been abstracted through Max Jitter and vinyl wall graphics. The vinyl will be imperfect shapes that abstractly reinforce the body, orifices, and processes in red, red-orange, orange and yellow. I would occupy a corner and project from the ceiling onto the textured portion of the shelter. The shelter would be made of a plywood base, inflatable center for the armature and either a fabric cover with poly-fil or inflated condoms as a projection surface on the convex portion of the shelter, with video of bodily processes, going out. On the concave portion of the shelter, I will have either a mini monitor with the video of bodily processes, going in, or a projection onto the smooth surface. The surface will further distort the images, representative of the social contortions that are placed on orifices and processes.
Project Goals What will I learn from this project? Conceptual: bodily processes and mastication Technical: creating an inflatable creating and distorting a projection surface Creating video projection capturing intimate processes creating large-scale vinyl cut-outs expanding max skills Why are you doing this specific project? I have been contemplating the differences and similarities between different corporeal processes and the orifices of the body and their uses. Eating and masturbating are very different from one another, one is being taken in, one is pushing out, one is necessary and one is not. One is private and one is public. These dichotomies are an interesting intersection that I would like to explore.
