Mexico Mexicans usually eat heavy for breakfast. it is believed that mexican food might have been derived from the Mayan Indians. Corn tortillas with bean paste were a common food item; but they also ate tropic fruits and fish.
Tacos: • Tacos al Pastor (pork) • Tacos dorados (flautas) • Tacos Asados Picaditas: • Made with corn masa tortilla • Chopped onions • Hot sauce • Sour cream • Cheese
Huevos Rancheros • 1/4 chopped onion • 16 oz can of tomatoes • 3 garlic cloves • 4 tortillas • 4 eggs • Cooking oil • a pinch of chili powder • Chili peppers to taste • shredded Monterey to sprinkle on top
Horchata • Prep time 6 hours • 1 cup of rice • 1/2 of a cinnamon stick • 1 teaspoon of lime zest • 5 cups of drinking water • 1/2 cup of sugar
Horchata preparation: Grind the rice in your blender until it is ground smooth. Toss with cinnamon stick and lime zest. Let rest overnight. After resting, place rice mixture into blender and blend until smooth. Add in 2 cups of water to mixture and soak for 2 hours. Strain the liquid through a fine sieve or cheesecloth a few times to remove any grittiness. Add in the rest of the water (3 cups) and stir in sugar until dissolved. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
