Assignment 3: The context In 2000 the modern greenhouse company LIROCA was established in China, producing Lilies, Roses and Carnations in 3 hectares plastic tunnels with steel construction. In the period 2000-2003 all produce was sold through the wholesale market for national destinations. Since 2004 export to South-Korea and Australia has been developed by means of a partnership with an Australian company. Now a promising contact during a trade fair with a Dutch importer, who’s interested in the high quality Lilies, has set the goal to export to the Netherlands.
Assignment 3: The problem Trade channels in the Netherlands require participation of the producers in the MPS programme, so LIROCA needs to work on it and needs to reach a good MPS classification (A) within a period of 3 years. MPS is an international certification organisation, based in the Netherlands, which assesses and certifies the environmental performance of floricultural producers. Environment, quality and social aspects are the main topics of MPS. MPS started promotion and awareness activities in China several years ago. http://www.my-mps.com/
