  1. The Brain Gym A Neurotherapy Center

  2. Problem… Medical Science will not have a solution for Parkinson’s ready within a timeframe relevant to the majority already diagnosed. Why?....

  3. We Don’t Know What The Disease Is… “The brain is so complicated, I seriously doubt that it comes down to one protein. If it really was that simple, then we would probably be too simple to understand it.” – Dr. Simon Stott

  4. We Don’t Understand Biology “Generally I think we understand less than 1/10,000 of all that there is to understand in biology. We know virtually nothing about how biology is controlled and how it works….There isn’t a lot of funding to do the fundamental research on one gene or one protein that would be needed to really understand these things…funding bodies want us to solve diseases and work with companies to figure out shortcuts that can be made into a drug. But we don’t have the fundamental basis that is needed to really solve these problems.” - Prof. Dario Alessi

  5. Science Is Skewed “As researchers, we are lucky that society has blind trust in us, there is no accountability, apart from showing our publications. All scientists have good intentions and have committed to this profession for the right reasons, but we get trapped into this wheel that creates science for scientists rather than science for society.”  – Prof. HilalLashuel

  6. No One Collaborates “There are people studying just (mitochondrial) bioenergetics or protein import or calcium, that don’t really know much about the other aspects of mitochondria. That is a big challenge, we spend decades becoming specialists, but now we need to back up and work together so we can put the whole puzzle together.” – Prof. Heidi McBride

  7. Drug Development Takes Forever 12-18 Years From Start to Finish!

  8. We Can Only Go After One Target At a Time “Once you’ve got two or more variables it becomes incredibly hard to work out what is important. Everything we do is dependent upon solving one variable at a time, which is very inefficient. No one has come up with a better way yet.” - Prof. John Hardy

  9. We Have Been Looking Under the Wrong Lamp Post “…we mostly focus on the risk factors that lead to the disease. We haven’t really started to look seriously at those factors that lead to faster or slower decline, which is what patients care most about.” – Prof. BeateRitz

  10. We Treat Everyone As If They Had the Same Disease… Courtesy of Prof. Alberto Espay

  11. Clinical Trials Suck • “….clinical trials are a terrible way to test a scientific hypothesis. There are so many reasons why a clinical trial can fail that have nothing to do with the basic science behind the trial. The dose could be wrong, the drug might not be hitting the target effectively, etc. Unfortunately when a trial fails it could lead to the death of that target because investors will be more hesitant to put money into similar drugs for the same target.” – Prof. Timothy Greenamyre

  12. No Wonder We Have Had Nothing But Failure So Far

  13. Meanwhile The Problem is Growing Quickly E. Ray Dorsey, Todd Sherer, Michael S. Okun and Bastiaan R. Bloem. The Emerging Evidence of the Parkinson Pandemic. Journal of Parkinson’s Disease 8 (2018) S3–S8 DOI 10.3233/JPD-18147
