Crossing cultures in the Era of Globalization [fashion as a challenging meeting point] Carol Garcia Anhembi Morumbi University Brazil
How to re-signify a Brazilian tradition • Cotton: Brazilian native plant, absorbent to sweat. It doesn’t produce static energy; it’s wash resistant; it has good “textile memory” and it has good dye retention. • Natural pigmentation: basic shades extracted from minerals, plants and insects.
The fabric as a helper of clothes “under construction” • Miyake quotation: dyes exposed to light modify colors with use producing an “induced defect”. • Yamamoto quotation: human interference in moulage shaping makes molding never the same.
The dress shape loads a nostalgic character – 60’s housewives. • Delicate lace finishings in pockets: anonimous dressmakers. • Topology which privileges cloth dropping without movement restrictions: consumer needs. • Continuous effort to make sense.
