  2. Activities • Review proposed changes to CASEMIS codes recently distributed • Discuss SELPA responses to proposed codes • Analyze current practices regarding reporting of residential services

  3. Purposes of the Proposed Service Code Changes 1. Address federal requirements to specify each IEP-based related service, including frequency and duration (Unbundling) 2. Support requests to specifically identify services to meet MediCal reporting and billing requirements 3. Improve reporting practices to refine data developed via CASEMIS

  4. Feedback from SELPA Why the new codes? Are these changes really necessary? We have concerns about where some new codes are placed, and re-using some prior codes to identify new services. Can these be reconsidered? Why are some codes separated out as “day treatment” or “residential”, but also listed individually (e.g., 543: Day Treatment – Psychological Services, vs. 530: Psychological Services)?

  5. Feedback from SELPA (cont.) It appears that there are some additional codes needed in the Day Treatment and Residential Services categories. Can any be added? What is the anticipated timeline for rolling out these code changes? When are NPSs and NPAs going to be informed of these changes? How will they be monitored to verify that they are complying? Are you aware of the effect of these changes (e.g. SEIS programming, staff training)?

  7. *Therapeutic milieu means a therapeutic program structured by process and skill building groups involving activities performed by identified staff; taking place for the continuous scheduled hours of program operation; includes staff and activities that teach, model, and reinforce constructive interactions; and include peer and staff feedback on strategies for symptom reduction, increasing adaptive behaviors, and reducing subjective distress. ** May include psychotherapy ***Related to psychiatric and psychological experiences

  8. Proposed CASEMIS Codes – Day Treatment (1st Try)

  9. Concerns and Changes • Service Code 545 had been the code for Residential Services. • To avoid miscoding, Service Code 545 is being retired. • Day Treatment – School Social Work will be coded 546. • We received feedback that Physical Therapy is not part of a Day Treatment program. • We plan to remove the Service Code for “Day Treatment – Physical Therapy”.

  13. Concerns and Changes • Service codes in the 500’s are for mental health services. Residential Services are not necessarily mental health services. • Residential Service Codes are now proposed to be moved to the 600’s. • Specialized Services for Low Incidence moved from 605 to 705 • We received feedback that Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy are not commonly offered in residential programs. • We plan to remove the Service Codes for these services from the Residential Services codes.
