General Information • 3 parts make up stone age • Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic • Started about 2.5 million years ago • Didn’t only use stone tools; also wood, bone, shell, antler • Became more advance as groups encountered other cultures more technologically developed
Paleolithic • Created 1st stone tools • Used knapped stone tools • They were hunters and gathers • Towards the end of the Paleolithic era humans began to produce works of art • Also at this time started to be more religious and spiritual (burials and rituals)
Mesolithic • Started at the end of the last ice age (10,000 years ago) • Had more complex settlements (tribes) • Mostly hunting and gathering but some farming and fishing is introduced • Started using bow and arrows and fishing baskets • Earliest known battle was recorded in the era
Neolithic • Mostly farming, hunting, gathering, and fishing • Tools: hoes, chisels, reaping hook, barley, loom , pottery and weapons • Domestication is taking place • Living on farmsteads • tribes and starting to have chiefs
