  1. Region K Economic Aspects

  2. Region K Water Demand and Population Projection

  3. Irrigation in Region K LCRA provides water for a 1,100 miles of irrigation canal within Region K. They are nine major pumping plants that pump water to portions of Matagorda, Wharton and Colorado county for their rice fields. Texas is one of the top rice producers in America and they produce approximately 7% of the nation’s rice. The water sources that provide the water over 91,500 acres annually are the Gulf Coast, Lakeside, and the Garwood and Pierce Ranch.

  4. Region K Plan Highlights • The capital cost of the plan is approximately $358 million dollars. • They plan on wastewater use, water conservation, and desalinization would produce 267,973 acre-feet of water in 2060. • They want to produce off-channel reservoirs for Region K stated LCRA.

  5. Drought Enforcement • First Violation- Notice of Violation issued. • Second Violation- Issue surcharge of $300 on monthly bill. • Third Violation- Issue surcharge of $700 on monthly bill • Fourth Violation- Cut-off service. Customer is required to pay $500 reconnection fee and $500 deposit to restore service.

  6. Water Contracts • LCRA sells water to customers through contracts and resolutions approved by LCRA's Board of Directors. By obtaining a contract from LCRA, cities, industries and homeowners in the lower Colorado River basin may secure a supply of "firm" water that is available even during dry periods that are equal to the worst drought on record. • RatesLCRA charges $138 an acre-foot for firm water actually used and $69 an acre-foot per year for firm water reserved for future use. The reservation fee helps pay LCRA's cost of storing and managing the reserved water supplies.
