The Simple Camera • Camera Obscura: • Latin • camera for "vaulted chamber/room“ • obscurafor "dark“ • together "darkened chamber/room • a device dating back to the ancient Chinese and ancient Greeks, which uses a pinhole or lens to project an image of the scene outside upside-down onto a viewing surface.

  8. Light Tight Box: • Inside black • No light gets in • Light only coming through pinhole

  9. Lens (Opening): • gather and focus light • control the AMOUNT of light that enters the camera • Smaller opening – sharper image • Larger opening – blurry image • Pinhole

  10. Shutter: • Flap • Controls the AMOUNT OF TIME light has to hit the film

  11. Film Holder: • Holds film flat and in place • Emulsion facing opening • Ortho Sheet Film CHECK ALL PARTS BEFORE USING!!!
