It is a White Supergiant • 1800 light years away • 60 times the sun's diameter, 30 times the sun's mass
When to View: June through November from northern middle latitudes. • How Bright: 60,000 times brighter than the sun • Its name is from the Arabic meaning "hen's tail," referring to its position in the constellation
But Deneb may well be the most energetic • Deneb is the brightest star in Cygnus It's among the most distant stars visible from Earth at an estimated 1,425 light-years
As a blue-white supergiant Deneb's high mass and temperature mean that the star will have a short lifespan and will probably go supernova within a few million years.
It has already stopped fusing hydrogen in its core. The star was probably an O class star during its main sequence lifetime and is now probably expanding into a red supergiant like Mu Cephei.
It make more light in one day than the Sun has since the Civil war.
Information about Deneb • Constellation: CygnusDistance: 1600 light-yearsSpectral class: A2Visual magnitude: 1.25Luminosity: 66 559 * SunMass: 20 * SunDiameter: 116 * SunRadial velocity: -4.5 km/sec
Interesting facts • In the Chinese love story Deneb is abridge across the milky way which allows the separated lovers Niu Lang and Zhi Nu to be reunited on one special night of the year in late summer
