Findings Contd.. Prioritization of Distribution: • On the basis of affected Area • On systematic order- age, gender, differently able people • On the basis of contact persons- Political leaders, teachers, representatives from civil society • District disaster relief committee( DDRC). • Random drop- by helicopter -inaccessibility.
Reason of participation Findings Contd.. Reason of Participation NOTE: “39 organizations involved in relief distribution after the earthquake”.
Findings Contd… Challenges: • Geographical and Infrastructural Challenges • Institutional, Bureaucratic and Policy related Challenges • Social challenges • Gender Equity and Social Inclusion and other Social Construct • Child Vulnerability • Gender Role in Disaster
Findings Contd.. Migration - People from earthquake affected areas migrated to different places according to their economic levels. E.g.Kathmandu, Chitwan (esp. from Gorkha) District headquarter
Lessons Learned: • Effective and significant role played by civil groups during relief • Getting approval from the DDRC because of the One door policy is a major obstacle • Unreliable data /incomplete data and duplication of data at DDRC • Monitoring process should be prioritized. • Undue political pressure while distribution due to absence of local governance
