Phase 1 “Immediate Response” • Opened GHS for victim/witness and family gathering • Opened ACHS for the evacuees from the Paris neighborhood • Opened HHS and RHS for community Disaster and Resource Recovery • Closed GHS to the public and cleaned up the school on Jul 22. • ACHS closed on Jul 22 for the evacuees • Most families were allowed to return to their homes, others relocated to hotels by the Red Cross • Closed RHS and HHS as a Disaster Recovery Center • Overall we served around 50 plus people over 3 days, we informed the city we can open it up again if needed
Phase 2 “Preparation” • Memorial services and funerals • Work with the city of Aurora on all efforts • Website up with phone contacts, suggested reading for staff and parents and additional information as needed • Reach out to all injured members of the APS community, either staff or students to include former staff and students • All departments to reach out to all persons in the APS family that were in the theater that night • Psychologists/counselors on call while registration/enrollment is ongoing
Phase 2 - Continued • Communications plan: • Email to staff updating them on our APS plan • Connect-ED call to parents on key points of the plan • Set up a repository for future recognitions of outstanding effort • Secretary Duncan will do podcasts for staff and students • Set up a file of all resources of agencies that have offered to help i.e. mental health, counselors, psychologists, etc. • Set up a funding mechanism for contributions from grants and other sources • Outreach to apartment renters in the Paris EMS area • Plan on substance abuse pro-active efforts • Plan on suicide prevention efforts • Contact faith based groups to inform them of our plan
Phase 3 “School Start” • Hire a recovery coordinator for the district • Hire psychologists/counselors to work with individual schools • Establish a crisis management committee organized for advice and counsel made up of principals, teachers, classified, counselors, psychologists, truancy specialists, liaisons and Positive Behavior support coordinators • Prepare a script for teachers that are grade specific to use on the first period, first day of school • Enhance security around APS schools
