DR/CP Disaster prevention and recovery strategy
“A disaster recovery plan describes how an organization is to deal with potential disasters. Just as a disaster is an event that makes the continuation of normal functions impossible, a disaster recovery plan consists of the precautions taken so that the effects of a disaster will be minimized, and the organization will be able to either maintain or quickly resume mission-critical functions. Typically, disaster recovery planning involves an analysis of business processes and continuity needs; it may also include a significant focus on disaster prevention.” Information from http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,290660,sid14_gci752089,00.html Introduction
Importance of a DR/CP DR/CP is a plan and system that every work place should have. It is important because it will limit the amount of revenue lost if the company has a disaster or problems. Also the plan will help employee’s understand what is going to happen when there is a problem and what they should do. This will limit confusion and errors by staff and help maintain operation of the business.
The impact of not having a DR/CP If a company has a problem with its main server and it is not operational for 2 hours, this means that the business has lost 2 working hours and 2 hours of business. If a company doesn’t a plan or system to fall back onto when there is a disaster or problem they are losing income and work hours.with a simple DRP it would make working with the problems at easier for the employees. If the company doesn’t have a back server or a plan it will have to close it doors for the amount of time the sever is down.
What DR/CP will give this organisation • DR/CP will give this company the reliability and confidence to work harder and gain more from its system. This means that they can rely on there system to function well and when it isn’t they know that they will not be losing business or profit.
