Objective 09/21/12 Apply temperature measurement to solve the CSI case. Intro Clue # 4: Markers
Temperature Booklet Pg. 13
Temperature • What is Temperature? • What do we use to measure Temperature? • The measure of how hot or how cold something is. • Thermometer
Temperature • How is temperature measured in the English system? • How is temperature measured in the Metric system? • Fahrenheit • Celsius
Temperature Celsius Fahrenheit • Water freezes at: 0 • Water boils at: 100 • Human body temp: 37 • Avg. Outside temp: 25 • Water freezes at: 32 • Water boils at: 212 • Human body temp: 98.6 • Avg. Outside temp: 77
Temperature • Coldest ever recorded Temperature: • Hottest ever recorded Temperature: • -89 Celsius (-129 F) in Russian Vostok Station in Antarctica July 21, 1983 • 58 Celsius (136 F) in Al 'Aziziyah, 1922
Temperature • Importance to the case: • The human body maintains its temperature up until death. • Taking a temp. reading after a person has died can give CSI investigators a pretty good idea of when they died
Temperature • Summary: Temperature is the measure of how hot or cold something is. Scientists use the units “Celsius” to measure temperature in the metric system. The ideal tool for collecting temperature is the thermometer.
