  3. 1925 Future Farmers of Virginia founded Serves as the model for Future Farmers of America

  4. 1928 Future Farmers of America established • Kansas City, MO • First National FFA Convention is attended by 33 people from 18 • states • Leslie Applegate is elected president

  5. 1929 Official Colors adopted • At 2nd National FFA Convention • National Blue & Corn Gold

  6. 1930 Let’s Get Down to Business • Official FFA Creed adopted • First Official FFA Manual adopted

  7. 1930 Let’s Get Down to Business • First Official Dress uniform adopted • Membership restricted to boys

  8. 1933 FFA Jacket • Blue corduroy jacket adopted

  9. 1935 New Farmers of America • NFA founded for African Americans in Tuskegee, AL

  10. 1950 Public Law 81-740 • Law is passed that grants FFA a national charter

  11. 1965 NFA & FFA merge • New Farmers of America and Future Farmers of America merge to form a stronger organization

  12. 1969 Girls allowed • FFA votes to open membership to girls

  13. 1973 Official Dress • Official Dress Standards are adopted

  14. 1974 Fred McClure elected • Fred McClure (TX) is the first African-American elected to a national FFA office

  15. 1976 Julie Smiley elected • Julie Smiley (WA) is the first female elected to a national FFA office

  16. 1982 Jan Eberly elected • Jan Eberly (CA) is the first female National FFA President

  17. 1988 Name change • Future Farmers of America changes its name to National FFA Organization

  18. 1991 Branching out • FFA chapters in the Virgin Islands and Guam are chartered

  19. 1994 Corey Flournoy elected • Corey Flournoy (IL) is the first African-American National FFA President

  20. 1996 Website • The official website for FFA launches • www.ffa.org

  21. 1998 Jose Santiago elected • Jose Santiago is the first Puerto Rican elected to National FFA Office

  22. 2002 Revisions • Official Dress Standards are revised

  23. 2003 Javier Moreno elected • Javier Moreno is the first Puerto Rican elected as National FFA President
