megusta(n) • pronoun – who is pleased gusta(n) – what is pleasing • gusta(single item) • gustan(plural items) • Tegustanlas casas. • The houses ‘are pleasing’ to you. • Nosgusta la clase de química. • Chemistry class ‘pleases’ us.
To express what you like to do: • megusta+ [infinitive(s) verb] • Megustadibujar. • I like to draw. • Legustabailar y cantar.* • She likes to dance and sing. • * NOTE: Gustar is not plural w/more than one activity.
To clarify who is referenced add the personal ‘a’: • a + [name/pronoun] le(s) gusta(n) • A Cristina legustatrabajar. • ‘To Christina’, she likes to work. • A Samuellegustanlasventanas. • ‘To Samuel’, he likes the windows. • A ellos lesgustaestudiar. • ‘To them’, they like to study. • A laschicas lesgustan los sábados. • ‘To the girls’, they like Saturdays.
To express a dislike, insert the word nobefore the expression. No me gustan los lápices. I don’t like the pencils. No, no les gusta el horario. No,they don’t like the schedule.
