Samli, ThailandMay 2004Health Clinic Construction • 1st project by EWB-Columbia • Richard Herring (EWB-USA) thought it would be good idea for us • 5 CU students (Civil, BME, EE, EAEE) • Laid out structural plans for clinic • 7 straight days of construction in village • Support • Fundraising effort by EWB-Columbia last semester • Raised ~$3000 for travel

  3. Pine Ridge, South Dakota Native American Reservation Assessment Trip July 29 - August 2, 2004

  4. Major Problems • The lowest life expectancy rate in the US • (55 for men, 60 for women) • Epidemic diabetes, obesity and alcoholism • Infant mortality 2X the national rate • 83% unemployment • Water contaminated by Uranium, Arsenic, E Coli., and Radium • Various health problems associated with poor water quality

  9. Water Treatment • Long term research project Surface water White Clay Dam Groundwater OST Water & Sewer Co.

  10. Crazy Horse Memorial Mount Rushmore
