Pine Ridge, South Dakota Native American Reservation Assessment Trip July 29 - August 2, 2004
Major Problems • The lowest life expectancy rate in the US • (55 for men, 60 for women) • Epidemic diabetes, obesity and alcoholism • Infant mortality 2X the national rate • 83% unemployment • Water contaminated by Uranium, Arsenic, E Coli., and Radium • Various health problems associated with poor water quality
Potential Projects • KILI Radio Station • Wind & Solar Energy Antenna of radio station Hill next to station averaging 40 mph winds on calm day
Playground at the Fitness Center • Gateway Project for Freshmen Area behind fitness center Fitness Center Local playground
