3. What is Restorative Mentoring? Restorative Mentoring is a community and custody based project run by Remedi working with some of the most prolific offenders.
It signposts, encourages and supports offenders to engage with key agencies to aid resettlement and moving on from offending.
The overall aim is to provide offenders with the skills and sustainability to empower them to live a crime free life without the support of services.
4. Restorative Mentoring: Process Map Remedi receive referral for client who is either in community or coming towards the end of their sentence

Remedi perform initial visit to explain Restorative Mentoring and offer involvement

Initial needs assessment takes place

If client is in custody Remedi will meet the client on the day of release
?
Remedi work with the client to address the initial needs of the client
?
Client decides they no longer need Remedi help or are deselected from the scheme
?
A final needs assessment and postmentoring evaluation are completed
?
Remedi check back in 1-2 months time to ensure client is still coping.
5. Needs Assessment Good need assessments should:
Be client focused
Encourage the client to prioritise their needs weighing short term needs against long term goals
Look for underlying problems behind explicit needs
Be dynamic
Provide a framework for working with the client

Welfare Rights
Education and training
Issues with family
Money/Debt advice
Advocacy with colleges etc.
Support in engaging with health services
Support in engaging with other agencies
Social support
Addiction treatment
7. Restorative Mentoring and Youth Work Working with young people presents different challenges:
Curfew awareness centering activities around this
Constructive Leisure activities
Self esteem/confidence
Greater/different issues with family
Different legal frameworks
Different strategies to make mentoring future focused

9. Restorative Mentoring An integrated approach Operates alongside work done by probation, police or Youth Offending teams.
Requires data sharing between key partnership agencies.
Shared information can lead to better planning of offender management.
Provides a guide and route through what is becoming an increasingly complex map of agencies and services.
10. Achieving Sustainable Outcomes Needs must be addressed in a way which allows the offender to sustain solutions beyond the project.
