Martin Luther King - Methods • MLK’s Christian faith and admiration of Indian leader Mahatma Ghandi’s non-violent protests meant he believed in non-violent direction action= protesting peacefully in a highly visible way to produce maximum publicity.
Martin Luther King - Methods • Protests included: • Picketing = Standing outside a segregated shop or diner and asking people not to use it. • Boycotts = not using any service that discriminated against black people. • Sit-ins = Sitting at a ‘whites only’ lunch counter waiting to be served. • Jail-ins = Deliberately getting arrested and filling jails. • Mass Marches
