  13. Statement Tu vas souvent en ville You often go into town Question Vas-tu souvent en ville? Do you often go into town? Turn the verb and subject round

  14. Statement Tu dînes à six heures You have dinner at 6 o’clock Question Dînes-tu à six heures? Do you have dinner at 6 o’clock?

  15. 2. Use ‘est-ce que….?’ • You can make any statement into a question by simply adding ‘est-ce que’ on the beginning. This way you don’t have to turn the verb and subject around.

  16. Statement Tu vas souvent en ville You often go into town Question Est-ce que tu vas souvent en ville? Do you often go into town?

  17. Statement Tu dînes à six heures You have dinner at 6 o’clock Question Est-ce que tu dînes à six heures? Do you have dinner at six o’clock?

  18. 3. Raise your voice You will sometimes find that French people simply raise their voice at the end of a statement to make it into a question. You can’t do this when you are writing, and it can sound a bit casual, even in speech. So, be prepared to understand it, but take care about using it!
