What is abortion? • Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy after, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.
History of abortion • Legal since the first settlers in America . • In the mid to late 1800’s states passed laws making abortion illegal. • In the 1800’s it was very risky to do surgical procedures because there were not any known antiseptics and hospitals were not common. • 1967 to 1973 1/3 of the states repealed their abortion laws. • Abortion is now legal in America.
