  1. Duplicate Retail Transactions RMS

  2. Background Duplicate Retail Transactions • Types of duplicate transactions: • PaperFree duplicate transactions • Siebel SBMI, SBMO, SBSW duplicate transactions (Move in, Move out & Switch) RMS

  3. PaperFree Duplicate Transactions PaperFree Duplicate Transactions Cause: • Duplicate transactions occur at several points in the PaperFree process, the exact cause is not yet identified, but investigation is in progress Action Taken to Date: • Since March 2005, multiple checks and alerts have been written into the retail code and have markedly reduced the number of duplicates that eventually reach market participants. Example…in March 2005, there was an incident that created 1.5 million duplicate transactions Resolution: • Explore additional software alerts and monitoring to potentially further reduce duplicates that reach market participants • Examine hardware environment further to find root cause of problems RMS

  4. Siebel Duplicate Transactions Siebel Duplicate Transactions Cause: • Batch transactions related to SBMI, SBMO & SBSW (move in, move out and switch) generate exceptions causing duplicate transactions Action Taken to Date: • Checks written into the retail systems code have enabled support analysts to catch more duplicates before they reach market participants, reducing the duplicates volume from 1000’s to 100’s and 10’s Resolution: • SIR to fix these errors was moved to production in early July 2006, but it caused additional problems with other business processes and was rolled back • This SIR has been refined and further tested and will be implemented with RBP, currently scheduled for 12/2/06 • Examine hardware environment further to find root cause of problems RMS

  5. Duplicate Transactions Action Plan • Team of ERCOT subject matter experts identified across IT and Market Operations to address the problem, holding weekly meetings to update status of troubleshooting activities and further investigate • Verify patch levels and security hardening of all equipment in the Development, Testing and Production environments • Servers, Storage, Switches • Match Development and Test environments to Production and attempt to re-create problem on demand • Paperfree server replacement in iTest environment – if it fixes the problems then do the same in Production RMS
