Task 1 Determine which member in your group will fulfill the responsibility: • Editor • Designer • Photographer • Project Manager • Video Specialist • Power Point Specialist
Task 2 Please take out your cellphones. • Activate Evernote • Create a notebook • Title your notebook: Summer Heat 2013 • Create a new note • Title your note: Defining Rigor • Tap the center of your screen to activate the note-taking section • Type: I define rigor in the classroom as… • Share
Task 3 Please do the following: • Create a new note in Evernote • Title your note: Questioning the Seven Survival Skills • Tap the center of your screen to activate the note-taking section • During the video segment that you are about watch, please question the speaker five times in your notes • Share
Task 4 Project Manager, Collaboratively, select a chapter from Esperanza Rising and assign yourselves a page to read and record it in Evernote. Please follow the script given and the instructions that follow it: “Good morning, my name is _______. I am a participant at the Bilingual Summer Heat Academy. Today is June 14th 2013 and I am going to read page 10 from the chapter Los Melones- The Cantaloupes- from the novel Esperanza Rising by Pam Ryan Munoz.” Pause and read. • During reading, read all punctuations. • Close by saying, “Once again, I am _________. Thank you. • Text your recording to Mr. Euceda with a message. • Your message must include a greeting, body and a closing.
Task 5 Project Manager, Inform your team to complete the following tasks: • Write their name at the top of their assigned reading page. • Circle all unknown words in the chapter • At the end of the chapter, provide a word count of the unknown words • Clarify all unknown words through the use of translations, definitions, synonyms or antonyms • Using Evernote, photograph the page and text it to Mr. Euceda with a message that includes a greeting, a body, and a closing

Each member is responsible for at least one slide, which will be presented orally by its creator.
Task 7 Project Manager, Have your team do the following: • Select a fruit from any of the chapters in the book. • Each team member must select a different fruit. • Create a 30 second video clip about the fruit. • Type your script on Evernote. • The script must have a greeting, body, and a closing. • Share your video clip. • Send to Mr. Euceda.
Task 8 Project Manager, Have your team do the following: • Visit Destinyschildren.org and review the timeline. • As you review the timeline, keep the following essential questions in mind: Is the immigration issue in the United States happenstance? How did these events create their own causes and effects? How have these events catapulted today’s immigration issues? • Write your notes in Evernotes, record team discussions, and send to me electronically
Task 9 Project Manager, Have your team do the following: • Read and discuss your chapter and the essential questions. • Select a topic from the topic list that is reflected in your reading • Ensure your topic does not infringe on another team’s topic. • Have each team member research the topic in different research sites • Have each member send all research notes to me electronically • Record your discussions in Evernote

Task 12 Project Manager, As a team, complete the followingassignment: • Write an expository essay • Have each team member write a paragraph about their own research findings • Your essay must have as many paragraphs as there are team members • Type your essay on Microsoft Word • Refer to the essential questions and expository prompts • Audio record your essay individually and as a team. • Send me your recordings
Expository Prompts • Explain how Esperanza’s flight from Mexico is similar or dissimilar to the many immigrant groups that have migrated to the United States. • Explain four reasons why immigrants will risk their lives in their search of a better life. • Explain how the events in Destinychildrens.org’s timeline have had an impact on the immigration issues we have today. • Explain how the immigration issues in Europe are similar to the immigration issues we have here in the United States. • Explain what global impact immigration has on the global community.
