  2. Overview: • When giving a PowerPoint presentation, it is important to remember to be clear, concise, and informative. However, it is also important to be sure that the PowerPoint itself does not detract or distract from your speech. Here are some hints to help you prepare the best PowerPoint presentation you possibly can.

  3. 10-20-30 Rule • 10: No more than 10 slides per presentation • 20: Under 20 minutes long • 30: No Font Smaller than 30 pt. Developed by Guy Kawasaki

  4. Don’t Use Too Many Words on One Slide Don’t overwhelm your audience with wordy slides. • Be brief and concise • Major points • Statistics • Visuals • Not explanations

  5. Be Sure Your Slides are Clear and Readable No one can read this. • Choose font type, size, and color that will be easy to read from a distance

  6. Pictures Should Be Big and Easy to See This is good This is not

  7. Ideas Trump Sentence Structure • Ideas are more important than complete sentences • Focus on content • Bullet points are fine

  8. Practice with the PowerPoint • Practice your speech with the PowerPoint before you present • This way you know how your speech and your visual work together • Your speech will flow more easily • You will feel more confident!

  9. Go with the Flow • Try to make your slides flow easily from one to the next • Smooth transitions make your presentation sound and look better
