  1. The Invisible Man (Horror)

  2. Who is the target audience & how is the genre shown? • The target audience for the Invisible Man are adults men and women, because it is a horror film and therefore not suitable for younger audiences, it would appeal to women as the lead character is played by a woman and it would appeal to men as men make up the majority of people who watch horror films. The genre is shown in the opening sequence as there is non-diegetic sound as a low bass, which is designed to make audiences uncomfortable and on edge, which is the goal of a horror film.

  3. Sound, Mise-En-Scene, Editing & Camera Work • There is also a panning shot from a woman to an empty hallway, which looks as if it is designed to be filming someone but there is no one there, which also makes the audience uncomfortable as this is unusual to see in films and people don’t like the unknown and the audience doesn’t know who is standing in that hallway, if anyone as they can’t see a person. The genre is also shown through a shot-reverse shot of the female having a conversation with a dog, as she seems in a rush and keeps looking around as if to make sure no one is there. This also makes the audience unnerved as they are unaware of why she keeps looking around her and appears to be on edge and because they don’t know, it leaves them to imagine their own reasons why she keeps looking around and their own thoughts could make them more scared and on edge than actually seeing something on the screen. We are introduced to a female character, who appears to be living her usual life, which could make the audience imagine themselves as her and place themselves in her situation as she appears to be a normal person and they may relate to her because of that. This makes them more jumpy and scared as the believe the things that happen to her in this film could also happen to them and makes it more realistic as they aren’t just watching a fiction film anymore and they rationalise their fears of it happening to them, which is one of the goals of a horror film.
