History of the company • The Warner Brothers began their journey in the movie business by showing movies with a projector in mining towns around Ohio and Pennsylvania on a travelling basis. • They opened their first theater, the Cascade, in New Castle, Pennsylavania in 1903 and in 1904 thy founded Duquesne Amusement & Supply Company to distribute films and began producing their own by the start of World War One. • In 1917 they shifted their production headquarters to Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California. • They then released their first nationally syndicated film, My Four Years in Germany in 1918. The film was based on the novel of the same name and was a box-office hit, raking in over $1 million (adjusted for inflation) which began their nation-wide fame and success.

These films include Beetlejuice which earnt just over $400,000,000 in the global box office, Joker earnt the company over $3.5 billion globally and received the title of becoming the first R-rated movie to ever bring in over 1 billion dollars in North America alone and earnt Joaquin Phoenix Best Actor Oscar in 2020 (and creating the only set of brothers to both be nominated for a Best Actor award being Joaquin Phoenix and River Pheonix), which also used the old Warner Bros logo from the 70s and 80s which is when the film is set, and the Dark Knight which earnt $3,524,207,037 with a budget of less than $500 million which also lead to Heath Ledger being awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2008 and becoming the first and only person to be awarded an Academy Award posthumously which will be given to his daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger when she is 18.

They also run television production companies like Cartoon Network Studios and WB Television Studios. Their other assets include the comic book publishing company DC Comics, Warner Brothers Interactive Development which produces many video games, own many cable TV channels like Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Turner Classic Movies and own 50% of The CW Television Network, co-owned by ViacomCBS.

Where do they operate? • Warner Brothers is an international company, releasing films across the globe and with many studios and employees in different parts of the world, however most of their filming is done in the Unites States, they use their New York Studio for many films and TV programmes, including Friends and Wolf of Wallstreet and is also their oldest studio. They also have their main studio in Burbank, Los Angeles where the biggest costume and prop warehouse in the world is and they have filmed many of their award winning movies, the WB Stage 7 is known as “the lucky stage” as it is where 3 of their Oscar winning movies were filmed, including Casablanca, My Fair Lady and The Life of Emile Zola. Their main headquarters is also located in Los Angeles, California where many important meetings regarding their movies are held.
