  1. Welcome…. Welcome to Cub Scouting

  2. Purpose of Tonight’s Meeting • To explain the Cub Scouting program. • To complete registrations forms and collect Scouting fees. • To explain opportunities for parents to participate with son in Scouting program.

Scouting’s Mission • “It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America to serve others by helping to instill values in in young people and in other ways prepare them to make ethical choices over their lifetime in achieving their full potential. The values we strive to instill are based on those found in the Cub Scout Promise, Tiger Cub Promise, Cub Scout Motto and the Law of the Pack.”

  4. Parent’s Agreement I have read the Promise and I want my son to join the pack. I will assist him in observing the policies of the BSA and chartered organization. I will: • While he is a Tiger Cub, serve as his adult partner and participate in all meetings and activities. • While he is a Cub Scout, help him and approve his Cub Scout advancement. • Attend monthly pack meetings and take part in other activities; assist pack leaders as needed.

  5. Cub Scout Promise I…. (state your name)…. Promise to do my best To do my duty to God and my country. To help other people, and To obey the Law of the Pack.

  6. The Law of the Pack The Cub Scout follows Akela. The Cub Scout helps the Pack go. The Pack helps the Cub Scout grow. The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

  7. Purpose of Cub Scouting Year-round family program designed for boys who are in 1st through 5th grade. Purposes are: 1. Character Development 6. Respectful Relationships 2. Spiritual Growth 7. Personal Achievement 3. Good Citizenship 8. Friendly Service 4. Sportsmanship 9. Fun and Adventure 5. Family Understanding 10. Preparation for Boy Scouts

  8. Cub Scout Membership • Family-centered program. • Boys and parents join a Pack. Meets monthly. • Assigned to a den (same grade boys). Meets weekly. • Parent’s committee runs Pack.

  10. Program Leadership • Program leadership is totally volunteer. • Over 15,000 volunteers in Orange County Council, BSA. • Active parental support is needed. • “Many hands make light work.” • Opportunity to get involved with your son.

  11. Who Pays For It? • Cub Scouting program is supported by families. • $11.00 for annual BSA membership and insurance. • $12.00 for optional Boy’s Life Magazine. • Additional den and pack dues for activities and awards. • Additional support of council through Friends of Scouting at first of year.

  12. Advancement Plan • Recognition is important to boys. • Advancement plan provides fun for boys. • Gives sense of personal achievement. • Strengthens family understanding. • Opportunity for parents to be involved. • Each grade level has it’s own book.

  13. Pack Activities & Calendar • Upcoming pack events for this year…. • Pinewood Derby • Scout-O-Rama • Day Camp

Part of the Orange County Council, BSA • Our pack is part of the Orange County Council, BSA. • Serves over 62,000 young people with a variety of Scouting programs across the county. • Camps and facilities include – Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, Newport Sea Base, Rancho Las Flores, Oso Lake, and White’s Landing. • Scout Office – 1211 E.   15. Den Organization… • Separate by age group (Tigers, Wolf, Bear, Webelos). • Become familiar with den – meeting times, locations, etc. • Discuss parental involvement in den operation. • Complete applications (both youth and adult). • Collect fees.

  16. Den Organization… • Please open your son’s Cub Scout application and begin completing it. • Cub Scout fees to collect tonight include: Application Fee Insurance Fee Boy’s Life Magazine (optional)
