Why sooner than usual ?(School was biannual) • Great demand for the Barcelona school in 2011! • Many applicants had to be turned down(students, postdocs, faculty) • Positive feedback, students interested in attending again • Volume of IT research increasing in Europe.Many young faculty and researchers. • Interest from Middle East, North Africa

  4. Location: Turkey • Good climate • Reasonable prices • Well-connected to almost all European cities • Close to Iran, Israel, Egypt, Gulf countries, where many students work on info theory, and might have visa issues for other European countries • Expect to receive many local students

  5. Two Alternatives: KUSADASI or ANTALYA KUSADASI • Both close to international airports • Most cities connected through Istanbul • Both surrounded with historical and natural attractions

Estimated Cost (80 students) • Lodging + Food: €20K • Lecturers: €7K (lodging + flight) • Projector + soundsystem: €5K • Administration: €5K (will try to reduce) • Wednesday social activity: €4K • TOTAL: €41K (€20k lodging+€21k other) • Studentcost (lodging+meals+socialactivity)€250 - €300 pp (€20K - €24K total, will try to reduce) • Note: Barcelona had €190 ppbutwithoutfood

Potential Financial Support • Turkish Scientific Research Council (for local students) • Local universities and companies • EU support (no previous example) • Motion: that the ITSoc support the2012 European School of Information Theorywith a grant of $20K (or €14k on July 29) • Last year the grant was $10K
