Tay-Sachs Deadly Disease
What is it? • Tay-sachs is a deadly disease of the nervous system passed down through families. It causes too much of a fatty substance to build up in tissues and the nerve cells of the brain. This buildup destroys the nerve cells, causing mental and physical problems. It is an autosomal recesssive linked disease.
Symptoms • Deafness • Blindness • Loss of Muscle Strength • Delayed Mental and Social Skills • Dementia • Increased Startle Reaction • Irritability • Listlessness • Loss of Motor Skills • Loss of Muscle Function • Seizures • Slow Growth
Treatment • There is no treatment for this disease. There are only ways to make the patient feel more comfortable. There is also no way to prevent this disease.
Facts! • Children that have this gets worse as they grow older. They usually die by the age of 4 or 5.
