"Ho - ho - help me!" came the voice from the chimney. I was sitting on the sofa late one night before Christmas. I was reading for AR, trying to reach my goal before Christmas break. The voice startled me so I jumped up and look around the room to see if anyone else was there. I slowly walk to the fireplace. I duct down and look up to see if there was really someone up there. All the elves were hard at work in Santa's workshop, all but one, that is. I was busy trying to get my hands on the nice list. You see I wanted to change a few names, but Santa had it under lock and key. It was just days before Christmas and Santa was sure to let loose of that list before too long. I tip toed across the workshop floor like a super spy in high gear. As I turned the corn to escape Santa grabbed be by the ear. Grandmother pulled the last tray of gingerbread men from the oven. Suddenly, I jumped off the hot pan and ran. I knew this was my chance for freedom. I floated to the floor and scooted out of the kitchen. Unfortunately I attracted Buzz the dog and he chased after me. All the commotion stirred everyone in the house and the chase was on. I was just a small mouse hiding under the manger when I witnessed the most amazing thing. It was a cold December night and the animals all seemed a little restless. A strange couple came into the barn. A man and a woman stager in uneasily and sat down in the hay. The woman was very big and was soon to have a baby. The man was deep and thought and seemed very worried. I kept hidden for a few minutes. Although these people seemed to be friendly you can never really tell for sure.
