Event Recording • Counts the exact number of times the behavior occurs • Used for discrete behaviors
Interval Recording • Define a specific time period • Between 10 minutes and 1 hour • Divide this time period of intervals no longer than 30 seconds • Record “y” if behavior occurred during interval • Record “n” if behavior did not occur during interval • Used for continuous behaviors
Time Sampling • Select a time period • Divide the period into intervals measured in minutes • At the end of each interval record “y” if behavior is occurring and “n” if it is not • Useful for behaviors such as on-task, out-of-seat, thumb sucking
Duration • Used for behaviors with identifiable beginning and end • Use second hand or stopwatch
Latency • Used to determine length of time between request for a behavior and beginning of performance of behavior
