  7. OmniSwitch 6855 – Overview

  8. Omni Switch 6855 - OverviewDesigned for Harsh Environment Operations • Based on OmniSwitch 6850 design • Operating environment • Storage temp: -45°to 85°C (-60° to 210°F ) • Operating temp: -40° to 75°C ( 70C for the smaller models ) • Ambient relative humidity 5% to 95% non condensing • Suitable for sheltered type of installations not requiring heated or cooled enclosures • Designed for operation in harsh EMI/EMC environments • Uninterrupted traffic with zero communication errors • Meeting and exceeding the stringent industrial EMI standards compliance • Designed to outstand industrial/military shock and vibration tests • Designed with redundancy and availability in mind • External, hot-swappable, redundant AC and DC power supplies • Redundant fan operation for the 24 port models

  9. OmniSwitch6855-14, 6855-P14 and 6855-U10Model description and port options • OmniSwitch 6855-14 • 12 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports • 2 SFPs • First 4 ports support PoE • OmniSwitch 6855-U10 • 8 SFP 100FX/1000X ports • 2 RJ45 copper ports Common • Convenient 1 RU high design • Non-stackable • Console port • Port and PS LEDs • AC and DC power supplies • 19” rack or base mounting (2 units in a rack) • NEW • OmniSwitch 6855-P14 • 12 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports • All 12 copper ports support PoE • 2 SFPs • Fanless design

  10. OmniSwitch 6855-14, OS6855-P14 and 6855-U10Power Supply Options • The power supplies for these models are in the form of apower brick • Both primary and backup power supplies are external and hot swappable • System power options: • 24V DC and -48V DC ( the OS6855-PSS-D accepts both input voltages) • Standard 90 ~ 240 VAC Input AC • PoE power supply options: • PoE is provided by a separate power supply • For 6855-14 both AC and DC PoE options are available • For 6855-P14 only AC PoE OS6855-PSSPH is supported today

  11. OS6855-U24XModel description and port options Model • 22 SFP ports • 2 combo ports • 2 10G SFP+ ports used as stacking or uplinks Technical Details • Fanless design • Using heat sinks – lower power consumption, higher reliability ( rated at 70C) • External AC or DC power supplies • Choice of either 10G uplinks or stacking (SFP+ connectors) • Stacking supported ( local or remote) up to 4 units in a virtual chassis • Two 10GigE SFP+ ports ; can be used for stacking or as uplinks

  12. OmniSwitch 6855-24 Model description and port options Model • 20 10/100/1000 RJ45 ports • 4 combo ports: copper or fiber • 4 ports of PoE : only port 1 to 4 support PoE Technical Details • Convenient 1RU design ; • 19“ rack or base mounting • Non stackable • AC or DC primary / backup power supplies • Operating at -40 to +75C – lower power consumption, higher reliability • External AC or DC power supplies • Has fans

  13. OmniSwitch 6855-24 and 6855-U24Power Supply Options • The power supplies for these models offer flexible options (OS6850 concept) • Both primary and backup power supplies are external and hot swappable • A power supply shelf can hold primary and backup PS • Various power options: 24V , -48V DC and AC • OS6855-PSL-P power supply provides system and PoE power for 4 PoE ports of OS6855-24 • Please note: DC powered PoE is not available

  14. OmniSwitch 6855 Hardware Differences with OS6850Power Supply Options • ASIC chip • Allmodels of 6855 , except OS6855-U24X, use BCM56500 ( It is a part of the BCM’s Firebolt family and has 24 GbE ports; no Higig/10G ports). • CPU • 6855 uses MPC8247 or MPC8248 ( MPC8247 does not have security engine, and all other settings and functionalities are identical to MPC8248. ) • 6850 uses only MPC8248. • Memory • 6855 uses one 128M of Spansion flash memory (The Spansion flash memory is soldered to the board, so it is not replaceable in the field) • 6850 uses 128M of compact flash and 32M of boot flash. • Temperature Sensors • On 6855 power can be turn off when temperature reaches a threshold and turn on later when the temperature goes down. • Stacking • Only 6855-U24X is stackable model, the rest are standalone units.

  15. OmniSwitch 6855-24 Over temperature condition • There is a hardware protection to shut down the box automatically if critical ambient temperature is reached • Automatically turns the box on when temperature cools down • The fans on the 24 port models are turned on only when critical ambient temperature is reached

  16. OmniSwitch 6855 Releases • Fist release for OS6855-14, 6855-U10, 6855-24 : - AOS 6.3.2.R01 in 2008 • First release for OS6855-U24X - AOS 6.4.2 in 2009 • First release for OS6855-P14 - AOS 6.4.4.R02 in 2011 • Unsupported features on OS6855 family • ISIS • Server Load Balancing • Stacking only supported on OS6855-U24X • The CLI command for the above features will be available but return “no supported” message • Managed by OmniVista 3.4 • Native support in 5620 SAM
