We became sickened at children’s needs being ignored... • as happens in 90% of relocation cases • Your child’s chances depend on finding a rare judge prepared to ‘go against the grain’
and so came about... • The Relocation Campaign • Officially launched at the end of 2009
...and we brought together the evidence confirming why relocation is harmful: • Children are 40% more likely to develop mental health problems • Children are disadvantaged at school... do less well academically • 15 academic studies ignored by the courts, but compelling arguments... we needed press attention Who could we get to help..?
The shadow Justice Minister agreed with us... • but not Potter or Thorpe who ignored our arguments
In January our arguments were accepted as ‘compelling’ in the right case, but appeals are still blocked. • Re (D Children) [2010] EWCACiv 50
...in March, experts from 50 countries came up with guidance which mirrors our own proposals, going AGAINST the precedent in the UK. • Washington Declaration on International Family Relocation
...and then in the High Court, Mr Justice Mostyn QC called for the legal precedent to be urgently reviewed, and savaged the ideology behind it. • ... and Thorpe went on Radio 4 to say the current guidance is ‘about right’, but accepted review is needed • but it’s likely to take years • x
