Comparative Degree (more / -er) • Comparative Degree is used to: • 1. comparing singular noun with the other singular noun • 2. comparing one group of noun with the other group of noun • Formula: • Subject + to be + comp. degree + than + pronoun I + to be • Subject + to be + comp. degree + than + noun • For example: • Kamu lebih tinggi dari dia • You are taller than him • Pesawatlebihcepatdarikapal • plain is faster than ship

  2. EQUAL COMPARISON • Formula: • Subject + to be + as + adjective + as+ pronoun I + to be • Subject + to be + as + adjective + as + noun • For example: • - Tulisan saya sebagus dia • My writing is as good as he is • - Kamu secantik dia • You are as beautiful as her

Negative Comparison • To denote “kurang dari” • Formula: • “Subject/Sentence + to be + less + adjective + than + noun/Sentence” • For example: • Wacthing badminton is less interesting than watching football • menonton badminton kurang menarik daripada menonton sepakbola. • II. Inequality Comparison (tidak se...) • “Subject + to be + not + so + adjective + as + noun” • For example: • Pagi ini tidak sedingin pagi kemarin • This morning isn’t so cold as yesterday morning

  4. REGULAR • Adjective with one syllable is showed by “-er and -est” • ex: Comp. Degree Sup. Degree • Short shorter shortest • Black blacker blackest • Attention! • Consonant must be doubled if preceded by single vowel • ex: Fat fatter fattest • Thin thinner thinnest

  5. 2. Adjective with two syllable is also showed by “-er and -est” if : • a. Stress is in the second syllable • Comp.
