About the snow leopard • Habitat- Mountains of Central Asia • Prey- Goats, sheep, small rodents, and birds • Predators- None • Diseases- Tyzzer’s disease and degenerative spinal disease
Effects of Snow Leopards • Effects of not having snow leopards: • Rodents would over populate • Rodents would eat up most of the vegetation • Livestock would be much safer • Effects of having snow leopards: • Livestock are killed • Birds, rodents, sheep, and goats can’t over populate
How are we Protecting Them • Trafficking of snow leopards and fur/body parts was made illegal • National parks protect them
How Can We Increase Their Number • Breeding programs • Reduce poaching • Protect them in national parks
Why Are They Endangered • They are mainly due to poaching for their fur. Also, farmers hunt them for revenge when a snow leopard harms their animals.
